"Why?"... you ask

It's the controlled reckless abandon!

The scent of cold, snow and pine.

The feel of the wind on my face and the sound of it whistling by my ears.

To float effortlessly (well, mostly) over the snow.

The adrenaline.

The breathlessness and the laughter.

The challenge to myself through every new turn.

To conquer the mountain!

...and then do it all over again.

  2. Dale, I've heard something along these lines before, but not nearly as beautifully expressed. It sounds wonderful...especially the way you tell it....but I know I would hate it. It's just not for me.

Thanks so much for your kind words on my blog. my friend. I'll post again as soon as I have the time...which I hope will be soon. Hugs xx

  3. That makes me want to go out and ski!!
But I think I'll pass. I have absolutely no coordination when it comes to speed and heights and snow and...
you get the picture. I will just read about your adventures and feel like I've been there with you.

    Have a great weekend Dale!!

  4. Tom - you would know...

Gypsy - I can't help keeping on keeping on!

Val - every day on the hill is an adventure! You just might like it...

Zoe - I, too, am terrified of speed and heights... go figure.

To everyone - have a great weekend!

  5. Oh I do love the way you describe things! So vivid! It almost makes me want to ski......almost. I believe I'll stick with cross country (as if I have a choice in Iowa!) The views aren't as good, but neither are the chances of breaking a limb...

There's funnies on my blog. Enjoy.

    Love,
    Rache

  7. Dale,

I've been so busy lately - I haven't had much time to think. Today is the first day I haven't had anything pre-planned. I'm starting to pack and get that "woo hoo" feeling.

  8. I can admit I'm a chicken poop. Actually, I started to ski late in life (30) and didn't pursue it because a fall cause a recurring hip pain from a skating accident a few years earlier. It's not that I don't like whipping down a hill quickly, I'm just hesitant to get badly hurt again.

So...I snow tube, all the fun, the excitement, the speed, and none of the potential dangers of standing on my actual legs.

    Have a great season!

  9. Rachel - I have broken more bones doing other activities... like getting run over by my own truck.

Lesley - only 6 more days!

AM - tubing does sound exciting, but I don't know if I'd appreciate the speeding out-of-control feeling...

  10. Hi Dale, it sounds like a bit of skiing is in order after reading that. The mountians and snow are so beautifl.

Hope you are having a good weekend

    xx Grace

Gypsy, thanks for letting me know - I sent an e-mail and left a message on Val's blog.
    I hope she's ok.

  13. Dale, if you skied as badly as I do, you'd be out of control anyway. It's just easier to do it sitting down.

  14. Dale:

Fresh snow in our local mountains, here. From the slopes, you can see Catalina Island off the coast!

    Gotta love it!
