SUNDOGS

I have a whole new admiration for the digital camera!

This afternoon we skied through a thin stratum of ice fog and, after descending through the light layer of dancing airborne crystals, we pointed our skis across the hill to do a run on the opposite flank of the mountain.
As I was skiing along the cat track, I looked back and was greeted by this amazing sight.
The sun through the fog was circled and dogged by an ethereal rim of rainbow hues.
This is no trick of the lens - what you see is exactly what I photographed!

Whither I goest my camera will now be sure to go... never knowing what extraordinary tableau might attract my lens!

  1. Hi Dale,
Wow! that is a great shot!

I too have learned to appreciate the digital camera, at first I thought it took a bit of art away from photography, but now I know that you can still get great pictures from a digital camera, and you an always delete the bad pictures easily.

Although there are still things that a manual camera can do that a digital camera can't.

Hope you're having a great weekend.

    Take care.

  3. I was with you, Chick, thinking that the digital was taking away from the creative aspect, but when I'm out there and see a shot and can shoot it right away, it's like magic!

Thanks String - I hope to be able to catch more spectacles today!

  5. Dale... gorgeous photo... one any shooter would be proud to lay claim to, myself included.
I am a slow convert to digital... I use my film camera for weddings and portraits still... and likely will for a long time to come, but for magazine and newspaper work, especially the dailies I freelance for on occasion, and things like product shots, head shots, covering events that only really want a cd of the images... there a digital rocks... I need to squirrel up a few thousand to set myself up properly one of these days....
three more sleeps before I get to have a mini-vacation! I am borrowing a SLR digital to play with while I am there.

  9. Hey, Snow-Bunny, remember me? Sorry it's been so long. That's a gorgeous photo. I think I could stand a little cold if the scenery offered as many compensations as yours does.

Stay warm and happy between runs.

  10. Hi Val! Come back when you have more time to visit...you know you're always welcome!

Stephanie, I was quite amazed when it turned out so well. My brother is a photographer and works with both 35 mm and digital - depending upon what he's doing.

Gypsy, a fairy ring it is...no doubt about that!

Lace, when I'm outh there having so much fun, the cold recedes into the background. It has a life of its own.

Margie! Great to hear from you! I was actually thinking of you this afternoon, as our regular waitress in the apres ski bar is from Melbourne. Yes, the cold does have its rewards...

  15. Hi Dale,
I'm back in blogland. Great picture. Two weeks ago I made a walk with my kids in the snow. ONE DAY WITH A LITTLE BIT SNOW!
I took my camera with me and made some pics.
    Now it's raining again.
    Hope you feel good
