It has been like a circus around here!
We still have our guests staying with us in the camper in the backyard and the kids have been having so much fun together! The weather has been pleasant and that, along with these days of extended daylight, are an open invitation for the children to run wild and free.
Suppper time tends to run late and often, especially on weekends, we don't eat until after 8:00.
That can be particularly stressful on me, as I tend to like things to remain in order...
I have learned to go with it over the years, though.
I feel like I am in the centre of a storm of chaotic events!
It has been very busy at work and I have been in charge of the prep department as of late. I quite enjoy the work, as it is very physical and satisfying. It's fun to see a vehicle come into the shop covered in dirt - inside and out - and see it leave the bay looking like new!
I also have the opportunity to listen to my music throughout the day and it gives me happiness and a rhythm with which to set my pace.
My main position at the dealership is in the accounting department, but I am working in the shop right now while one of our technicians is at school.
Working in the prep bay does not take a degree in rocket science, but it does involve attention to detail, lots of elbow grease, a chance to play in the dirt and a pride in a job well done.
Can you tell I am enjoying myself?
A result of having more hours at work is I have less hours to do my work around the house. The cleaning, meal preparation and even the books appear to have fallen by the wayside. There is always so much to do in the present that my work has been piling up!
I will do something about that on Saturday.
On my way into town this morning I have to stop off at our local landfill to drop off some garbage. We recycle most of our throw-away items, but we do end up with about one and a half bags each week that has to be taken to the dump.
Our landfill has to be one of the most beautiful spots in the land. There is a sweeping panoramic view facing west over our valley, that takes in the fields, the lake and the foothills with the Purcell Mountains as a backdrop.
In order to fully appreciate the sight, I simply have to ignore the fact that I am standing on a garbage dump...
Today is another work day and I have to finish making lunches for all - that means five separate lunch kits.
Wish me luck as I tackle another day in Paradise!
good luck dale..you will get there in the end..dont worry about housework chores..they are never done...heres a little poem i kept from years ago.....A MOTHERS WISH...I hope my children look back on today, and see a mother who had time to play, there will be years for cleaning and cooking ,but children grow tall when we're not looking, so settle down cobwebs, dust go to sleep, i'm cuddling my children,`cos children dont keep.....x...
ReplyDeleteThat's beautiful, Gypsy!
ReplyDeleteI will remember.
Hey, Dale, that's such a lovely verse that Gypsy's left for you...and so very true.
ReplyDeleteI have this terrible sadness that I didn't have a chance to finish being a mum to Maryssa..She came here for a year when she was 17 but hated it and went back to SA. Since then I've had to make do with my couple of weeks a year..I feel bereft...
Hey, it seems to be working again!
ReplyDeleteI sent you both e-mails.
Val, yours arrived just as I was sending one to you.
:)
I love the following line:
ReplyDelete"In order to fully appreciate the sight, I simply have to ignore the fact that I am standing on a garbage dump..."
Our school sits on a hill atop a garbage dump. It explains a lot, actually... ;) We have one of the nicest views of the downtown core, with the CN tower in full view over the trees of High Park. It's actually quite lovely.
I hope the madness is about to end for you with the end of the school year. All those lunches!!!
Take care of yourself, although it sounds like you're enjoying the work.
Cheers,
AM

Hi Dale,
ReplyDeleteIt's so ironic that a beautiful sight is right next to something so ugly.
Unless a house looks like that landfill, I don't think that anybody's guests really care if the house is completely spotless. Nobody goes over to a friend's or family member's house with white gloves checking for dust.
Anyways, I'm glad you have a job you enjoy, it makes working so much easier.
dale ..what a loverly image i fell asleep to last night log burning stove beautiful views and you with your children all cosy....i have responed to your comment on pt's mega blog...lol...i didnt connect with yorkshire and dale when i said that but laughd out loud at the irony..our vallys away for the weekend so i have been left in charge so to speak to keep us out of trouble..he he he ..do you think this is possible?...
ReplyDeleteYou are a special lady, Dale, to find beauty in a landfill. I very much understand what you are going through right now, as you know. I will keep you in my prayers. You are very special indeed!
ReplyDeletewhos yorkshire pudding/dales....

ReplyDeleteThe high school in our town sits on the old landfill, too!
It has a beautiful view from the opposite direction.
What's with the views from garbage dumps?

Hi Dale
ReplyDeleteCan finally comment, so just a quickie before I resolutely shut away my blog for the night! Got so much to do I can't have the time...anyway, dear Dale, a message from the Vally will be winging its way to you from the other cyber carrier.
Have a fantastic weekend and may your garbage become ever more beautiful.
Love and hugs
Val
Hi Dale,
ReplyDeleteNO rest for the weary...or, no rest for the weary mother! I don't know how my Mom did it, even with just one child let alone multiple children. We always seemed to be on the go, and now that I make my own lunch for work, do all my own stuff, I can see how time consuming it must have been to make my lunch for school, do my laundry, help me with homework, make dinners, make breakfast AND do stuff she needed to do for herself - a full time job on top of a full time job!
I'm off tonight on our vacation - may you have a restful weekend! I guess we can even see beauty in a garbage dump. *L* Talk to you when I get back!
Hi Dale,
ReplyDeleteSmell the letters on your screen: diesel? That's right. I've been really busy getting my engine in order for the trip end of this month. Great success, engine never ran any better than during test today. Will see if it stays that way.
Thanks for letting us in on more and more details about your life in British Columbia. I really like the description of your working life and the way you keep several balls in the air, so to speak.
I owe you an answer to your questions on my blog (thanks for visiting!):
The old engine in the movie is a semi-diesel. The explosion does not occur through high pressure but by spraying the diesel against a hot piece of steel inside the cylinder. Twenty minutes of pre-heating are needed to make the thing glow. Imagine the temperature in the engine room on a hot day!
And yes, sometimes the first bang is a really big one. No danger, but neighbours relieved to see me pop up after starting!
The housework isn't going anywhere. That is what I always say. Make time for yourself and your family. That is what is important.
ReplyDeleteWish I could listen to music at work. I have to settle with listening on my drive in and out.
Hope your weekend is less busy. Have a good one.
XO
Zoe
Hello Gypsy, Val, Anne-Marie, Molly, Chick, PTfan, Lace, Mary Beth, Koos & Zoe!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting & helping me feel less guilty for getting behind.
Often a simple kind word - or a diesel smelling one, Koos - will go a long way.
:)
Dale
thankyou dale for your loverly words...hopefully neil we understand what we are saying at the sad time...obtw..i love the smell of diesel....
ReplyDeleteyou were right in your jacobian reference heres what i copied form the encyclopedia...One explanation is that it was established during the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745. The Jacobites declared that the natives of Newcastle were staunch supporters of the Hanoverian kings, in particular of George II during the 1745 rebellion. This contrasted with rural Northumbria, which largely supported the Jacobite cause. If true, the term may have derived from a popular anti-Hanoverian song ("Cam ye ower frae France?"), which calls the first Hanoverian king "Geordie Whelps", meaning "George the Guelph".
ReplyDeleteAn alternative explanation for the name is that local miners used "Geordie" safety lamps, designed by George Stephenson, rather than the "Davy lamps" designed by Humphry Davy which were used in other mining communities.
Newcastle publisher Frank Graham's Geordie Dictionary states:
"The origin of the word Geordie has been a matter of much discussion and controversy. All the explanations are fanciful and not a single piece of genuine evidence has ever been produced."
brings to mind this song...liggy is a marble and netty is the toilete...brian johnson is releasing this song and i think billy bragg ( a famous geordie )did a cover of it.....
