Summer ? and Mountain Biking
This is the view from our back porch this morning.
It began raining during the night on Wednesday and the temperature dropped to five degrees C down here in the valley.
Apparently it is even colder at higher elevations...
On Monday I wore a summer dress and sandals to work - in my air conditioned office.
Last evening I went mountain biking wearing long biking pants, a fleece sweater, followed by a sleeveless vest and a heavy duty windbreaker over that.
My bike rides have been few and far between this year - life has a tendency of getting in the way.
A couple of years ago there was a group of us who used to meet every Friday evening for what else - the Friday Night Ride.
This week we decided to gather a few souls together for a ride, but in the end there was only a group of two that tackled the wet, slippery trails.
My husband opted to golf in a tournament instead, another couple were out of town, and others had prior committments.
So it was down to me and another buddy to hold to the Friday tradition.
We almost decided against riding because of the rain, but we were already at the trailhead and pushed on despite the wet.
It was great to be on the trails again - I've missed it.
After the ride we drank our requisite glacier fresh Kokanee then headed back into town for the best pizza our world has to offer.
The evening was topped off by a warm, soothing soak in the hot tub.
I cannot think of a better way to end the week and begin the weekend.
Unless it's skiing...

Your photo fills me with yearnings Dale. What magnificence...sigh.
ReplyDeleteThe mountain biking tradition sounds just up my trail too! There's nothing like a good bit of real exertion followed by great food and a hot bath. You must have felt all new again ;-)
Shame it was just the two of you, but hey! Atta girls! You did it!
I have a post to do later which will explain why I am cream crackered, as is Koos, but all will be revealed shortly...and sorry ;-)..there's absolutely no spice involved...lol
Evocative writing, Dale. You see, photography is just one medium to make others feel they were there, writing is another, and you do that so well, not only in your formal writing, but also in the little remarks you leave on other people's posts.
ReplyDeleteWell Val, you'll just have to come visit my mountains... :)
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you, Koos. I do love to write.
Hi Dale,
ReplyDeleteWow, what a view, you lucky girl! your day sounds blissful. The temperature is varying greatly here too - sweater and long pants in the evening, shorts during the day. How confusing! *L* I can only appreciate it until the snow falls again....oh wait, I'm complaining to the wrong person for that, as you're anxiously awaiting the snow! :)
Hi Dale,
ReplyDeleteI heard it snowed in Edmonton today.
So, tomorrow, here, it's supposed to be 28C and sunny. Funny little country we have, isn't it?
Beautiful picture, though, but you can keep the snow for a few more months. :)
Hi Dale,
ReplyDeleteThat is real dedication when you and your friend continue on with the ride, especially in the rain!
Good for you!
hellllpppp!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMary Beth - we are indeed lucky and, yes, this is the time of year when the talk turns to the upcoming ski season...we were discussing just that on our bike ride.
ReplyDeleteAnne-Marie - we've a rather large country, but the weather patterns can be odd!
Chick - yes I'd call it dedication except for the fact it was only my 3rd ride this season. I wasn't very dedicated. The rain only added another facet to the experience and we didn't get too wet.
Neil - thanks for stopping by and letting us know you're still out there!
Val - in the photo that highest point without snow on it in the foreground is Castle Rock.
ReplyDeleteits all spaggetti dale...lushious pic that is..
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! I about died, however, today when I saw on the news all the snow that fell in Utah this weekend. It's only September - I have the same feeling for snow right now as I do for all the Christmas decorations that are starting to appear. Love it in its rightful place and time ...
ReplyDeleteThat being said, I want to go skiing now - even after a weekend spent out in upper 70s weather on the lake.
Gypsy - I was hoping it was only computer trouble...watch the splinters.
ReplyDeleteJaney - I can't believe Christmas decorations have started to appear there...it's still summer!
Aslan - I hope my trails are a wee bit bigger than yours... ;)
Hi Dale,
ReplyDeleteyour look is wonderful. I like the mountains. Here in Germany the weather is fantastic since weeks, but the autumn is comming. The first chestnuts are falling down and some trees you could now see with color leafs.
Wish you a good week.
All the best
Stefan
Castle Rock? It looks more like Chimney rock to me...lol.....oh you mean THAT one..;-)
ReplyDeleteOh duh, Val... it took me a moment.
ReplyDeleteThe leaning chimney pot!
Dale, what a beautiful place - how lucky you are to live there. Brave of you to go riding in the rain - I'm ashamed to say I'm much more of a fair weather outdoors person.
ReplyDeleteWhat (pardon my ignorance) is Kokanee? Beer? I like the name, anyway!
Yes, Margie, Kokanee is a beer.
ReplyDelete...a cool, crisp glacier-fresh Kokanee...
It is also a glacier, a lake and a kind of fish.
On Sunday it was 28 and I was drinking Stella Artpos (from Belgium) and Keiths (from Nova Scotia)in shorts and a t-shirt on my balcony with friends. Today it's 16, (10 when I awoke) so I warmed my cool home with a fire in the fireplace before heading off to work. Aaaah, but the leaves are starting to turn and I love the great colours of the Ontario and Quebec autumn. Say hi to Castle Mountain for me and I'll say hi to Mount Bauldy for you at Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteLove Dale
grrr .... I wish I could edit my last post ... It was Stella Artois that I drank (yummmm) .. and I meant to say Love ya Dale.
ReplyDeleteThink I type too fast sometimes for my own good.
LOL Lannio - I thought maybe you were having a bit of an identity crisis...
ReplyDelete;)
