Another Tree
I took this photo - and the one in the post below - while skiing in one of my best-loved areas.
This place is officially known as Founder's Ridge, with all the connecting runs being named for the original founders of Panorama - but to the locals, this expanse has been affectionately dubbed Bosnia.
A few years ago it was partially logged (Gypsy!) to widen the runs, but soon after, a violent windstorm swept through and knocked down many of the remaining trees.
Although still beautiful, it is now quite reminiscent of a bomb site...
This proud remnant caught my eye as we stopped for a break part way down the mountain - another of my favourite things to do while skiing is to pause to enjoy the ever-changing scenery along the way.
Not only does the scenery itself change, but any particular view is in a constant state of flux, depending upon the light, the weather and the time of day.
If, once more, I ski by this not-so-verdant testament to tenacity, I will snap another photo.
...and we'll see what it looks like on that day!
Oh look...

Sometimes in our lives,
ReplyDeleteWe all have pain
We all have sorrow
But if are wise
We know that there's always tomorrow...
And happy glasses.
ReplyDeleteI've got a smile on my face and I've got four walls around me...
ReplyDeleteGot the sun in the sky and the water surrounds me....
I'll win now but sometimes I'll lose
I've been battered, but I'll never bruise, it's not so bad
And I say way-hey-hey, it's just an ordinary day
and it's all your state of mind
At the end of the day, you've just got to say,
it's all right...
You see in this beautiful life, there's always some sorrow...
It's a double edged knife but there's always tomorrow...
It's up to you now if you sink or swim,
Keep the faith and your ship will come in.
And I say way-hey-hey, it's just an ordinary day
and it's all your state of mind
At the end of the day, you've just got to say,
it's all right...
Great Big Sea. And on tough days my personal theme song...well that, and then on other days it is I Will Survive. And on saucy days, Lady Marmalade.
we'll be all right...
ReplyDeleteWhat a proud and lonely tree! So glad you can go out and take these photos now Dale.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way about my river here. It is always changing, always magnificent...wonderful to be able to see such grandeur every day.
Good luck with your teenager, Dale.
ReplyDeleteMine's going through a tough time now, too.
We'll all be alright!
both of my boys as well... sounds like a red wine and whiskey night to me!
ReplyDeletelol
Hi Dale,
ReplyDeleteThose are lovely sceneries.
Hope everything is well for you.
Take care.
I am enjoying your beautiful snowy pictures. I used to ski, havent for a while, makes me remember all the fun
ReplyDeleteOhhh love that second shot...what a view...what a life...the wilderness is calling me, no not London Calling, but something entirely different!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE that tree...derelicté-ness-ness at its best...nothing more beautiful than trees in winter..
ReplyDeleteThe slag heaps are quite disturbingly poetic at this time of year, when the winter glow smacks off their peaks..I get emotional..
ReplyDeleteThanks all for the "teenager support"...
ReplyDeleteBeth played hooky from work and that just will not do, in my books.
She's home now and I am making sure she makes it for her shift today!
Rachel and Stephanie, we WILL be alright - and so will the kids...
ReplyDeleteVal I think there is something to be said for the nature that surrounds us - and the opportunity to be aware of it is truly a treasure.
Gypsy it IS derelicte-ness-ness!
...I actually thought of the trees in the picture hanging on your wall, that you've now incorporated into your profile pic, when I saw that tree!
Thanks for visiting, Chick!
String, answer the call!
There's that wildness that calls to me, too.
Grace, get back on those skis!
