Cold hearted orb that rules the night,
Removes the colours from our sight,
Red is grey and yellow white,
But we decide which it right.
And which is an illusion?
Pinprick holes in a colourless sky,
Let insipid figures of light pass by,
The mighty light of ten thousand suns,
Challenges infinity and is soon gone.
Night time, to some a brief interlude,
To others the fear of solitude.
Brave Helios wake up your steeds,
Bring the warmth the countryside needs!
As I pass into the new year, I feel an odd void behind me...
There is very little about the past twelve months that particularly moves my memory - even the number 2006 appears as a dark figure in my mind's eye.
It was a year of unsettled change, perplexing questions and evasive answers.
On the other hand, the number 2007 appears etched in light upon my imagination.
It has already become a year of reflection and resolve for me.
I have no items in particular that I resolve to do or to change - it seems that my life, in its entirety, has become resolute.
Armed with that, I will meet the new year's challenges with unwavering faith and energy.
* The above lyrics by The Moody Blues - "The Day Begins" from the album Days of Future Passed.
Best of luck with your resolve my dear.
ReplyDeleteHey I know that poem by heart - obviously I love it too.
Sorry Lesley, I had to move your comment to my new post - I was in the middle of fixing it when you dropped by...
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Dale,
ReplyDeleteI love that album.
Apres la tempete, toujours le soleil. Or something like that (and with proper accents).
Cheers,
AM
Dale:
ReplyDeleteI have been a HUGE mOODY BLUES fan since the 1960's. thank you. for the post. Pete Townshend posted to my blog about Justin Hayward (Moodies) last year. It was so cool.

Lovely lyrics Dale. The Moodies always had a way with words didn't they. I love the message behind it. There are any number of known expressions but these words say it uniquely. Hoping 2007 is a year of highlights and hope in amny many ways, dear Dale

Hi Dale,
ReplyDeleteIt's refreshing to be able to let go of an old year (with some troubles) and start fresh again - a new beginning for us all. We can only hope and pray that each new yesr brings something wonderful. As one of my former bosses used to say, hope is the root of everything. If the human race had no hope, everything would fall apart and there would be nothing.
There is very little about the past twelve months that particularly moves my memory -??????..hello hello!!..our holiday in the ether..hmph!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI always say "the sun keeps shining even if we can't see it"!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a sunny year!!!
By the looks of it, in the UK, it's going to be a while until we see a bright sun sunny day... Bloody rain all the time, LOL.
How's it going at the slopes?
xoxoxo

Hi Dale,
ReplyDeleteI know some songs from the Moody Blues, but I never bought a LP. I oversleeped her music. Try to find a CD and listen.
Love and peace
Stefan
Lovely lyrics - thanks for posting them!
ReplyDeleteHope that 2007 is light and memorable for you in all the good that it will bring.
Very nice post, can feel the resolve~! I have a different feeling about this year, seems whole for some reason. 2006, not a great year all in all, but not a horrific one either.
ReplyDeleteYes, AM the clouds always have a silver lining, too!
ReplyDeleteDan - I've never seen the Moody Blues live, but I did know they were on tour fairly recently.
They are timeless.
Val - you are so wise and always encouraging!
LOL Verification "phatgap"...
Yes I did know about Roger's film on Keith - and starring our dear Canadian Mike Myers... but who else!
LOL But I will always remember the ether and my great blogger friends - that is implicit!
Stefan - the Moody Blues lyrics are always so introspective.
Thanks Janey!
String - we must be on the same wavelength!
I've been so busy playing in the powder snow that I didn't even realise my computer was down until last evening!
ReplyDeleteIt has snowed so much, that when we went into Taynton Bowl yesterday to do some backcountry skiing, that I found myself armpit deep in the stuff!!

ReplyDeleteI do love the moon and, although the MB's call it a "cold hearted orb" I hold it dear to my life's sway and cycles...
ReplyDeleteI have been feeling rather moody and blue...
ReplyDelete...i now have the strong feeling i've been talking to myself...
ReplyDeleteHey, I bought some ski boots - on sale! which then got me to buy some skies - again on sale. I'm a solomon girl now. (all for under kK) The boots are the newer edition of the boots I rented when I was with you. I'll probably be going skiing on your birthday too in Quebec so I can break them in then. We're having a girl's chalet get away just north of where Glen lives.
ReplyDeleteMy cold came back with a vengence (38.5 or 101.3 temp) so I'll be home nursing it for the next two days cause I have a dr's note. Oh, I'm also on codine - woo hoo!
