Through the smoke of distant fire
Drawn into the dusky sky
Growing stronger - rising higher
There it met my eye
Its glow was sure - a firey red
A pagan sight it's true
From the sleeping sun it fed
And yet it was quite blue

  1. Lovely poem, but oh no! I can't really make out the pic on my LCD computer screen. Perhaps I will see it better at work.

It was lovely to talk to you today :-)

  2. Great poem Dale...but..what is it?? I'm really intirigued! And pleeeeease, send some of that hot hot hot weather over here...just a teensy bit?? We're having such a horribly typical Dutch summer. If the last years' great ones have been freaks of nature, then give me more...the freakier the better ;-)

  3. This is a photo of the moon last night.
I took it as we were travelling down the lake in the boat, hence the wobbly look to it.
The colour was amazing, due to smoke from forest fires in the USA blown up on a south wind.

Once in a blue moon... ;)

  4. It was great to talk to you, too, Lesley!
I did manage to figure out how to crop a photo...

Oh Val, it sounds like you're going to float away with Gypsy...

You can HAVE our weather...but only on week days.

  6. MB - it might not look like the moon, but the colour is bang on!
    That was the creepy part.

  7. On very rare occasions, one month will support two full moons. The second fully waxed moon is called a blue moon.
It happens very infrequently, so infrequently, in fact, that it only happens once in a blue moon...

There will be a blue moon on Monday night in this part of the world.

Neil and I saw a double rainbow tonight just before he left, it was thundering raining and sunny all at the same time..we made a wish..

  9. That's good tidings, Gypsy!

While you were visiting me, I was over at Neil's blog - good to see him again.

  10. Wow, Dale - lovely poem and a very spooky photo. Bushfires do strange things to the sky, and the effects still frighten me (was in one as a child, and I've never forgotten the fear).

I wouldn't have guessed it was the moon either, but the effect is incredible.

Hope things are picking up for you. Good days / bad days, then the bad ones become fewer, and fewer ....

  13. Hey Dale!
That was a crazy moon, huh? The boys and I watched it for a while.
Not to be arguementative, but while we west of Greenwich had a blue moon on May 31 (it was also a milk moon as it was May is the cows give the best, most nutrient rich milk with lots of fresh yummy greens and flower buds to munch... at least the ones who are free range), the blue moon you are thinking of will be in Auckland. Their first full moon of July was on the first of the month. And they are the only ones who will get this one, actually (Sydney will miss out by just a few hours). In London, Moscow, Tokoyo (Greenwich and east of Greenwich) the blue moon was June 30.
    Weird how it works.
Um, that sort of makes me sound knowitall-ish. Don't mean to. Just been more interested in moons and such lately.

  14. Steph, I did stretch this year's blue moon a bit...but it was pretty darn close.

  15. You know, it kind of looks like an ultrasound...
you know what, to heck with what I said... we can call it a blue moon if we want to! If Auckland can have it, so can we! Calander shmalander...
