In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt down, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields

Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae (1872-1918)

  2. It always makes me cry too, Dale. Have you ever seen the video "A Pittance of Time"? Check it out on youtube if not- I had posted on my blog one or two years ago. It as played during our school service and had me weepy. It's so moving.

  3. My Grandmother recited that to me as a child, as she did a lot of poems, but this was such a great one! Hold on to Faith indeed!!

Pink Sat. was started by a sweet blogger named Beverly. Not sure what others use it for...I really don't have much pink in my house but I create a lot of it as I have TONS of clients who just eat it right up and purchase it. A lot of the Shabby Chic style incorporates it. Soft colors you could say. I use Pink Sat as a marketing tool...I have met lots who purchase from my store through it as well as vice versa.

I have to start a Purple day....MY most favorite color...

  4. Hi Dale,

I wrote the same on Anne Marie's blog:

"a lot of bad memories about the Germans. The Remembrance Day should be a day to think of a better world. I hope the human race is learning about the history."

I don't know this poem written by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae. It's real good.

Hope all is running well in your life. What's with the snow and your winter sport?

    Have a gret day.
    Love
    Stefan

  5. Dale!!! I never even saw you'd slipped in here again. What a lovely poem this is and how right that you should have posted it. I wrestle with the feelings because 11th November also happens to be my favourite niece's birthday and my friend Mireille's birthday too, so while we celebrate with them, the feeling of the need to spare some moments to mourn is also there.

Thank you for so gentle and beautiful a tribute. xxxx

  6. Thanks, Grace. John McRae's words say it all.
Steph, I missed the ceremony this year, but did not miss out on the 2 minute's silence.
AM, I watched the video - and I cried.
Yes, Molly, start a Purple day and I will start a Burgundy one!
Stephan, I don't think of it as bad memories about any particular people or citizens of any certain country. I remember that those who fought in the war(s) and died for what they believed in so we can enjoy what we live today. I have hope for the human race!
Hi Val - I thought you might recognise the heartfelt simplicity.

It's good to see you all here!
