Lonely?
There's a dog under my coffee table.
And a cricket in my flower pot.

  3. I always feel a bittersweet melancholy when the kids go to their dad's.

Even after their being with me for over two weeks...
Even though they are only a short walk down the road...
Even though I often find myself resisting the urge to pull my hair out while they are here...
Even though I enjoy the solitude when they're not...
Even though I know I will see them almost daily...
Even though they are growing up quickly and are becoming independent spirits...

    I miss their presence.

  4. As for animal friends, be it four-legged or six-legged with squeaky wings, there's no company like it.

  5. that's brill. I have a finch on my balcony; she falls asleep on the perch at the feeder and she's getting chubby as a sparrow.

  6. The one thing you can be sure of Dale, is that your kids will always be back, not just sometimes, not just when they want something, not just when they need help. Your kids love you so if they're anything like mine, they'll want to be with you...just because. xx

  7. We don't have kids, but I cannot imagine our house without the furry beasts that share our space. They are definitely the thing I miss the most when I am travelling.

OIn Dover, we had crickets that made their way into the house overnight. Very adorable sound to fall asleep to.

  8. I am imagining your little fat finch perching on your porch, Gina!

LOL Val, you're right. Bobby hung out here most of the afternoon.

The company is similar, AM, although the furry ones are not as adamant when it comes to talking back. But, I have both, and know that the company is welcome.

I am, at present, being serenaded by a chorus of crickets and Tucker followed Bob when he left...
