No More Tummy Aches

We just spent the last three days at Bobby's bedside in the hospital.
On Tuesday we had to rush Bob to Cranbrook for an emergency appendectomy.
The operation went smoothly and they removed his appendix before it ruptured - any later and it may have been more serious.
Bob is home now, resting and doing fine.

The patent's biggest complaint...he can no longer use appendicitis as an excuse to stay home from school!

  1. Hi Dale, I am pleased to hear all went well, and he is recovering. He is probably thinking, darn, now what excuse do I use?!

Hope you are well too. xo

  2. Thanks, Grace!

It's amazing how quickly kids (and adults, to be sure) heal.

  3. That must have been scary. I am also pleased he is recovering and hasn't lost his humour! All my best to you and Bobby!

  4. Dale!! I'm so glad Bob is doing well now. That must have been a fright for you! There's nothing scarier than one's own children being ill and hospitalised. Thank goodness it's a relatively common procedure now, but even still, it's good to know he's recovered so quickly. You never can tell with anaesthetics and ops.

I'm sure he'll find another excuse now..tell him to invent a spastic colon..lol..that's just as hard to identify and can be awful painful ;-)

By the way, just so you know. I haven't left my boat. I'm only at the house at weekends as Rotterdam can be a nightmare on Friday and Saturday nights. It feels like such luxury to have both...and yes, I feel very lucky indeed.

It's even nice to be here alone. Koos is in Poland and normally I miss him if he's away, but my little house is so welcoming and there's so much to do, that I never feel lonely here.

  5. Great news that things became well for you folks on that...

Is there an appendix to this story?

  6. Dan that's disgraceful! Wish I'd thought of it. Dale - poor Bobby, and poor you! I'm so glad to hear he's on the mend though, and I have no doubt a bright lad like him will soon think up a new and even better excuse, no problem.

Has he thought of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? Very scary places, hospitals.

  7. Hi Dale
So glad everything went fine. Congratulations to Bob too!

Isn't it fun that I can type this all the way from Poland, meanwhile keeping an eye on VallyP, who doesn't miss me.
I don't miss her either, of course.
    So there.

  8. LOL Koosje, but now I'm back in Rotters and of course I miss you immensely!

  9. So Vally, what you're saying here is that a boat is no subsitute for Koos, but bricks and mortar easily compensate for his absence? Watch her Koos - if she starts planning any extensions to the barge you're obviously on the way out.

  10. Bobby is healing nicely and we took a drive to Banff on Sunday. Bob brought a friend along and we all had a good time.
The boys had deep dish pizza at our favourite restaurant, Melissa's Misteak, while we adults had adult burgers and fries...
I love the town of Banff and we all got a kick from wandering down Main St. checking out all the shops.
It was really good for Bob to get out and about.

The stitches come out today and he should be back to school on Wednesday.

    Koos you'd better hurry home!

    ;)

  12. Look you lot, I've already done everything to my boat, so there's only the boring stuff to keep me busy here! I just love a project, see.....and if I'm busy...well...it keeps my mind off other things...;-)

  13. Hi Dale, I hope Bobby's back to normal again now. I'll bet he's enjoying all the yummy treats a recovering boy deserves ;-/

  14. Back to school on Wednesday? Awww, come on - not even a few more days off to take him to the weekend? You Canadians are made of tough stuff.

  15. OK, since all is so much better now....what exactly IS...

    an ADULT BURGER?

...and, in case you do not know, my old Jeep hit the road when I sold it in the early 1980's.

The very, very best to you, Dale, and to all your family and life's business...

  16. Wow! So happy that Bobby's all right. You must have been scared witless. It's my usual state, so I do know that one well. har. It's amazing that one little wormy remnant with absolutely no use causes so much trouble for us humans. Now he will have all the fixin's for scar showing and the telling of appendix horror stories well into the future. Yes, thank God children are so freaking resilient. Look at the power they hold over our grey hairs. Plink. 100 at a time.

Dale, I really like your blog photo. It's very cute.

    Best to all!

Poor wee Bobby, I hope that by now he is all better..
Tell Bobby he can use soggy sandwiches as an excuse to bunk from school..
Hope you're ok Dale it must have been a worrying time..

  21. Oh Dale I LOVE Melissa's Misteak! It is one of my favourite spots in Banff that is still like the original Banff!
Glad to hear poor Bobby is better, and you as well! Your child being ill and especially have surgery.. uhg... a terrible feeling.
And I finally picked up a jump drive and best get what you need to you asap! umm... so I guess that means I best get all the receipts entered in first.... lol...
it was a glorious day today, wasn't it? Still is... such a warm evening...

  22. Hi Dale, so you didn't have the skiing you would have liked this winter? Sounds as if you were too busy with other things...are you working from home these days? Is the plan to be a ski instructor off for the time being? I hope your plans work out, dear Dale.
