Waking to a Winter Wonderland

Alarm goes off, are you listening?
In the yard, the snow is glistening.
A horrible sight
We'll shovel till night.
Waking to a winter wonderland.

Gone away are the new birds
Here to stay is there no bird?
No chirping spring songs
As we plough along
Waking to a winter wonderland.

At the Meadow's we can build a snowman
Then pretend that he's the one to blame
He'll say, Do you like it? We'll say, No man,
You can clear my walks - that's not my game.

Later on we'll conspire
As we shiver by the fire
Then we'll sit and we'll pray
For the price that we pay
For waking to a winter wonderland.

At the Meadow's we can build a snowman
Pretend that he's the one who covered the brown
We'll have lots of fun with Mr Snowman
Then we'll kick his *** and bring him down.

Snow in spring, it's not thrilling
I hate it when my garden's chilling
Send it away
You can take it today
After waking to a winter wonderland.

*Note: This is a re-arrangement of the old Christmas/seasonal song, Walking in a Winter Wonderland, by Felix Bernard (1897-1944)

  1. Hi Dale,

Haven't been blogging for awhile but I see that Bobby had a appendicitis so I'm happy to hear that he made it through just fine.
As a Nursing Assistant I had two
    patients who's appendix did indeed
burst but they are fine now.Glad that it didn't get to that point for Bobby.Hope all is going well.

  2. Hi Dale, great peice of poetry here! Is this a Dale original? It sort of sounds very personal, so if so, I'm truly in awe! Even so, spring is taking forever to come through over here too. It's still cold, the heating's still on and the little annuals I've planted are shivering in their pots. Poor babes, I hope they survive. may spring coming rollicking over your way soon, my friend. xxx Val

  3. Thanks for stopping by, Mike! Good to hear from you.

Val, this is sung to the tune of "Walking in a Winter Wonderland". I borrowed the song - call it a re-arrangement.

  4. Dale:

That whole story (some of it, anyway) would make me stay in my warm sloppy bed with covers and pillows everywhere...and call in sick.

In the "old" days, I would maybe then go climb a peak...in the...

    snow! Go figure!

But, this is not the old days, it is not the young days, but it is truly now...the older days. I sure hope I don't hit the ancient days anytime soon!

    See ya,

  5. Hi Dale,
Great poem! I haven't been here in a while, but thanks for dropping by!

My boyfriend finally broke up with me, unfortunately it didn't end well, but I'm OK.

    Hope you're doing well.

  6. Hi Dale!
So nice to see you at my blog!
    AWESOME re-make of Winter Wonderland.
Ah...Mother Nature has her OWN schedule...it's humbling isn't it?

Thanks so much for visiting my blog.

Yes...WHAT a year it's been for many of us.

I DO miss the OLD blogger days of P&R yore, but they formed a beautiful community - the vestiges of which still remain. I am grateful for that.

We're the cream of the crop! Yeah?

Happy to see you at the Rachel forum...hope to see you there more!
(Listen to me - I sound like I own the joint!).

Hope you are well...I need to catch up on your blog. I will.

    Take care-
    Love,
    Suexxx

PS Hope Spring makes her overdue appearance soon!!!!

  8. what wacky weather! I too this weekend have been cold, no snow, but...cold wind and wood stove fires. What happened to the short wearing weather of 2 weeks ago?

  9. It's a relief to see that were' not alone with the winter backfiring on us repeatedly :)
All the snow is gone here right now but the nights are freezingly cold and the northern wind is blowing all the day.
Great remake, I can somehow feel the desperation...

  10. Somehow, your snow is much prettier than our snow. We got a blast of ole man winter last weekend as well, actually got more snow that dump than we did all winter. Sometimes Mother Nature can be such a bitch, can't she?
Flew over you on a plane trip Apr 4-7 with Mom & Trina to see Matt in Langley. He now has job and an address. He graduated on the weekend. I'VE GOT MY BOY BACK! Call me.
Take care, give my love to the kids. What is possibly left for a future excuse for Bobby anyway? He's about used them all up from what I can tell.

  11. Haha I love this Dale. Are you really snowbound some mornings? Fancy having to dig yourself out just to get to work or school. All that hard graft and then more to do!

But it looks so beautiful ...

  13. I liked your story about Tucker, the other day I was filming June rolling around in the grass being silly dog, look how cute, and when I turned the camera off and petted her, she stunk of rotten something!!! Yeah, very cute.

  14. I have chosen to ignore anything but sunny days until all threat of snow and cold are well and truly gone.
In my world the sun is out, the grass is green and the sky a lovely shade of purple! Always room for more!
    lol!
