Louse Detail

Blood-sucking parasites!

Well, if that doesn't conjure up images of hostile aliens on the loose...

I just pulled four of them out of my younger daughter's hair this morning.

Hey, these things happen.

It's part of growning up.

It's also part of what we have to deal with as parents, in order to care for our children.

So, away we went...

Line up for the head check!

Poor little Jen was the sole owner of an infested head.

Thank goodness there was only one head out of our five in our household.

But, it was a rather poor substitute for spending the day on the ski hill in the snow and the sun.

I am done going through our hair with a fine tooth comb...

I am also tired of nit-picking...

  1. Oh the puns! Gotta love 'em.

What trouble. now you gotta clean everything in the house, right? What a pain. There has been lice going around the kids school for months this year. Praise God my kids haven't gotten it! They came up with a great idea for the kids to put their coats in plastic trash bags at school. That way is someone has them (so they would have some on their coat) they won't get transfered to another's coat in the coat closet and go home to infest another family. Since they started that I haven't heard about any more cases in the school.

Sorry abou tthat awful trouble. Is your daugheter upset about the stigma this brings? Or is that not a problem for her and teh kids at school?

  2. Hi Dale,
I was one of those kids who loved the semi-annual lice checks, you know, the long wooden sticks going through my long hair, giving me goosebumps. They are now officially considered a nuisance rather than a health problem here, and there is very little stigma attached. In fact, kids seem aware that lice are attracted to clean hair, so it's not a stigma anymore.
Anyhow, sorry to hear that you lost a day on the hill because of this.

    Cheers,
    AM

  3. Hi There!

Ah PTfan - you did notice the puns.
    ;)

I wasn't sure if they would catch on...

I've had kids in the school system for a good 10 years now & it's not a big deal.
Not a stigma at all - we just have to be aware.
It's just one of those things that go round & round.
I'd like to know that the buck stop here - so I know where to start next time...

BTW, I have no memory at all of lice checks at my schoool.
    I was totally taken aback
by the fact that lice actually happened when I was a kid.
    What's up with that??

    Love
    Dale

  6. Oh, yikes - that made the hair stand up on the back on my neck!!

    I'm not a bug person. *L*

I luckily never experiences lice in school, but I know some of my classmates did. I think I would go berzerk now if that kind of thing happened to me!
