NOVEMBER

The time between

When our world

Lies back

And heaves a great sigh

Preparing

To ease beneath

Its icy blanket of snow

For the season

  1. I thought that up as I looked out the window and watched the dreary, bleak and leafless landscape shivering in the bitter November wind.

It was nice to be sitting in front of the fire on my cosy couch watching the CFL semi-finals football game - that's why I was looking out the window...

I'm not much for armchair sports!

BC won and are going to the Grey Cup next week against Montreal.

  3. Well, do your own weird thing, that is. :)

So who do you cheer for, BC or Montreal?

  4. Lovely! And, in sympathy, it's wet, cloudy and blustery here today - no, sorry, the sun's just come out again. Oh no wait - it's gone. Melbourne weather is bizarre - they say if you don't like it, wait five minutes. Our gardens are like botanic psychiatric wards - spring flowers never know whether to come up or stay down, petals open and close seventeen times in the same day, autumn leaves start to drop like lemmings and then immediately regret it as the mercury zooms upwards again, and cicadas pop out of their shells just in time to have their newly-unfurled and dried wings hailed upon. At least in Canada, when you're cold, you know you'll stay cold for a while!

btw, I love that poem ("In Flanders Fields") too." Thanks for putting it up.

As for armchair sports, I love them. I choose the biggest, comfiest armchair in the house, and set it right in front of the telly. I find it blocks the view perfectly.

  5. Dale dear,

Did I tell you, Joe and I are going to the Grey Cup in Winnipeg on Sunday??? Yup! I'm so excited. Not sure which team is "ours" as of yet, probably B.C.
We have awesome seats. He goes every year, no matter what city it's in. This will be my first Grey Cup.
I'm wearing a pink hat that makes me look like a Russian, warm black wool coat, three layers on top, two layers on bottom, black winter boots, and cute mittens!

Weather report doesn't predict Arctic, but we'll be outside for about 5 hours, so...I'm ready!

Did you write this November poem? I love it.

    Hugs,
    Brina
