Midnight Thunder

The storm that crashed into us last night was phenomenal!

We watched it creep up the valley from the south in the dark over the mountains as it slowly gathered intensity.

The light show was incredible - followed by a wind such as I've never felt.
The rain hurt as the huge drops popped into spray on our exposed skin.

We all watched in amazement while standing on the back porch - thunderstruck...

It had been hot & humid all day, so the storm was not totally unexpected, but the ferocity was!
It raged on for over three hours, which is unusual for a thunderstorm that will often blow itself out after a few minutes.

The feeling was surreal, adding to the unreal events of the day.

I swear I saw Murphy racing through the clouds!

  1. Thunderstorms are amazing to watch, I just don't like the sounds, they still scare me.

Glad to know that Murphy is running pain free.

  2. Sweetie, I am writing this with tears in my eyes.

Murphy was very sweet. I'm sure she was very happy with you all her life.

She will be watching over you, from the fluffy clouds.

    Love ya,

  3. Fantastic foto Dale, reminds me of Natal storms. Thunder in the mountains is almost a religious experience, isn't it? Wish I could be there too. Love the image of Murph racing through the clouds...hold that thought...x

We also had a tremendous storm here in Rotters last night. The racket was incredible as we had hail as well - almost cataclysmic. Being on the boat, of course, you don't get to see that much of it because you can't see out so much, but it was quite dramatic.

    Hope you're doing alright dear.

  9. I love when a thunderstorm is looming in the distance. But on a day like you had yesterday, it has a melancholy feel.

I am sad for you that Murphy is gone. But remember whenever you see a storm coming now, it just may be Murphy sending you a thought that she is alright.

Whenever I see a falling star, I tell myself that it is my daughter Emma saying, "hey, how are you. I'm fine."

  10. Hi Dale,
Do you like the storm that just sent some hurricanes scrambling for another day?

    Go Oilers go!

    Cheers,

  11. Dale,
I just wanted to say how sad we all feel here about your losing Murphy. As you know, we had a doggie sister here too a few years back and I really do, unlike most kitties, have a natural affection for doggies.

    I'm sorry.

  13. Hi Dale,
You and Val can both be in my class, we'll drink red wine and laugh a lot, in whatever language you'd both like. Deal?

I hope you're doing well, my dear. I thought of you today and wondered how you were.

    Love and hugs,

  16. Dear Dale
Just read about your son getting sent home..unbelievable! What a nonsense! How can they send a little boy home for not finishing something as 'beside the point' as a father's day card?

I used to get so mad with the stupid rules at my kids' schools. The girls loved it, though, cos I was always fighting for them!

You must have really wanted to slump with your poor Murph and now this...but I know you'll keep that chin up..xox Val

  17. Hi Dale,
I hate reading about school stupidity, and believe me, I see a lot of it...

Your poor son. I hope you manage to have a great weekend after such a rough week.

Lots of hugs and love sent your way!

  23. Hi Dale, I just came over from Greekzoe's blog. I am so so very sorry about Murphy. I know the pain that you are going through right now. We lost our Brittany in December 2005 of cancer. My heart goes out to you and your family. The coming months are going to be hard but you will make it through. Murphy looks beautiful and sweet. Think of all the wonderful happy playful times you had together. Murphy will always be in your heart. They never leave us, they will always be there with us. I am so very sorry. The hardest thing I ever went through. I have tears in my eyes right now, all my love ooxx Grace

  24. Stunning photo Dale! We had a lightening storm the other day that bliped out our power. Wonder if we sent it up to you lol? Murphy racing through the clouds is such a sweet thought! I am into birds and sometimes I still hear them chirp when outside.
